5 Finishing Touches for Your Cat House

Posted by

When you’ve found the perfect outdoor cat house for your fur babies, you’ll want to get it shipped out right away. But don’t forget to check out the custom options.

Here are 5 finishing touches you can add to your cat house.

1) Heated Pad

If you live in a colder climate, or if you have older cats with health issues, we recommend adding a heated pad. The Tree House Humane Society of Chicago recommends adding a heating pad to your feral cat house. They explain, "Heating pads can fit inside shelters or be placed separately in sheltered, dry locations…Make sure you purchase heating pads intended for outdoor use.”

Just add an outdoor-rated heating pad to your cat house to keep your cat cozy and warm during those cold nights. Here are 3 different sizes of heating pads you can get:

9" x 12" Hard Heated Pad

14" x 18" Soft Heated Pad

19" x 24" Soft Heated Pad

2) Round Door Insert

Some cats just feel more comfortable with a round door. Don't ask us why...but they do! If your cat likes to squeeze through holes in fences or find an isolated corner to curl up in, it may enjoy this round door for your cat house.

3) Vinyl Door Flap

Colony Cats recommends, “Add a door flap to the shelter to keep winter winds out. The inner space will be warmer and cats will still be able to get in and out easily.” You can add a Vinyl Door Flap to your cat shelter for only $14. Your cat will love being able to watch the world go by while she stays warm and dry.

4) Extra Door

For peace of mind, some cats enjoy having an extra door in their house. That way, they always have a backup escape route if they feel threatened. If you select an extra door, we’ll place it on the back wall, diagonal from the front door. That way, you won’t get a wind tunnel effect. To add one, just click on the button to add "Extra Door" (for only $17) when you purchase your cat house.

5) Extended Roof

If you're looking for more protection from the cold, rain and wind, you may want to add an extended roof. It will protect your cats from the blazing summer sun, as well. Give your outside cats a place to get some shade just outside the door of their new house!
