Our Top 5 Cat-Friendly Travel Destinations

Posted by

Want to go on a summer vacation but not leave your cat behind? We’ve rounded up a list of the best vacation spots to visit with your furbabies. From a cat-friendly cruise line to a floating cat shelter, there’s something for everyone!

Here are our top 5 cat-friendly travel destinations.

Rome, Italy

Home to many pet-friendly restaurants, stores, and hotels, this city is a fantastic choice for you + your cat to visit. Pets can also travel on trains and public transit in Italy, although you may need to purchase a discounted ticket for your kitty. With kitty inside a carrier, hop on board a double-decker bus tour to see the sights. Stop at the Pantheon, a breath-taking Roman temple that was converted into a Christian church, and get free admission. (Kitty will need to be in a sling or carrier.) If you’re lucky, you might even catch a beautiful choir performance.

Cunard Cruise Lines

Ready to set sail with your kitty? Cunard Cruise Lines accommodates pets travelling to and from New York and Southampton, England, on the ocean liner Queen Mary II. With a luxurious kennel (to rival even a cedar cat house) and a fun gift pack for each animal guest, your kitty will be in the lap of luxury! Although your cat can’t sleep with you, you can spend lots of time with her during visiting hours. Don’t forget to get a pet passport and reserve a kennel spot ahead of time. All aboard!

Amsterdam, Netherlands

A beautiful city packed with history and culture, Amsterdam is very welcoming toward cats and dogs. You can visit the Catboat (a floating cat shelter that holds up to 50 cats) between 1-3 pm on most days. Next, stop by the Kattencafe Kopjes, a famous cat café where you can drink coffee, eat red velvet cake, and pet the resident cats. Many hotels, restaurants, cafés, and parks are pet-friendly, as well!

Charleston, South Carolina

If you like to kayak, you and your cat can take a self-guided kayak tour with Nature Adventures Outfitters. If you’re lucky, you may spot dolphins or manatees along the way! Another amazing attraction is the Magnolia Plantation and Gardens which offers pet-friendly tours of the grounds and plantation home. In 2014, it was chosen as one of “America’s Most Beautiful Gardens” by Travel & Leisure Magazine. After a fun day of exploring, you and your kitty can check in to The Inn at Middleton Place (pet fee of $75, provides a complimentary gift bag for pets) or the Charleston Riverview La Quinta (up to 2 pets stay free!)

Paris, France

One of Europe’s most pet-friendly cities, the City of Light has many cat-friendly attractions. You can take a stroll in the east side of Luxembourg Gardens with your kitty (we recommend a leash). Take in a breathtaking view of the Eiffel Tower from the Champ de Mars, the field below it. If your kitty rides in a cat carrier, you can even take a double-decker bus tour with Open Tour Paris. After a day of sightseeing, check in to the Hôtel de Crillon (with toys and room service for pets, prepared by a 2-star Michelin chef) or Le Meurice (pets receive a complimentary gift basket). Bon voyage!
