5 Easy Homemade Treats Your Cat Will Absolutely Love

Posted by

If you're a cat owner, you know that treats are one way to get to your cat's heart. However, when most cats think of treats, they think of commercial treats sold in pet stores. But what if you can spoil your cats with homemade cat treats? Yes, you can share the love with your feline friends by making them delicious treats right at the comfort of your home.

In this article, we've rounded up five proven homemade cat treat recipes you can easily make yourself, some that cat will love.

1. Fresh-Baked Flour Treats

Depending on your kitty's favorite protein, combine mashed chicken or tuna with catnip and whole wheat flour. Stir in some milk, vegetable oil, and egg. Slice the dough into a grid or roll it into balls before placing it on a baking sheet and baking for 10 - 13 minutes at 350°F. If your cat doesn't fancy tuna, canned mackerel, salmon, or any protein-based wet food, can be used. Add some cheese to make the treat even better.

Recipe:

  • Tin of wet tuna or salmon
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup powdered milk, non-fat
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup of cheddar
  • Source: The Nest

2. Tuna/Chicken Cat Treats

This rich, smooth treat will leave your kitty wanting more. Combine some canned tuna with eggs, flour, water, and parsley. Shape the dough into small round pieces using a bottle top or a heart-shaped stencil and bake for 20 minutes at 350°F until golden. Serve when cold and refrigerate some for later.

It's no secret that cats love and will go crazy for catnip, making it an excellent ingredient for treats. Mix some ground beef, eggs, and catnip in a container and bake the mixture 7- 10 minutes 350°F. Dry any excess fat when done and cut into small pieces. Homemade cat treats are a fun way to spoil and show your cat how much you love them! Just don't forget that some common human foods such as grapes, raisins, onion, salt, and chocolate — are TOXIC to felines if ingested. Your homemade treats should be guided by your cat's diet preferences, as well as healthy choices. Lastly, it's important that cats have adequate water and that the treats are stored well and given sparingly. Too many treats aren't particularly healthy for your kitty.

Please note that you should check with your vet on any treats you give your cat. Checking with your vet will help you avoid problems with cat allergens and any complicating health issues.
